Welcome to the Social Medicine Portal, a project developed by faculty members of the Department of Family and Social Medicine of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. If the concept of social medicine is entirely new to you, please consult our posting What is Social Medicine? or an article we published in Monthly Review with the same title. Also please visit our on-line, bilingual academic journal Social Medicine/Medicina Social
The portal contains links to websites, documents and presentations devoted to social medicine. The portal began in March of 2004 with funding from the AECOM Division of Education as a “Medical Education Excellence” program. (Thanks, Dr. Kuperman) The website is now maintained by the Social Medicine Publishing Group. In collaboration with the Montefiore Department of Family and Social Medicine and the Latin American Social Medicine Association (ALAMES) we also publish an on-line, open-access, academic journal called Social Medicine.
Our goal in creating this site is to link together the diverse international community of people working in social medicine and health activism. We encourage visitors to e-mail us materials for inclusion.
