Saludos cordiales,

The quick answer to this question is yes. As one aspect of our abortion-related training, the DFSM offers a Fellowship in Family Planning/Reproductive Health. Information about this program is available at: http://www.einstein.yu.edu/dfsm/page.aspx?ID=6286.

The larger issue of having physicians trained in abortion care is an important one. Readers with an interest in this issue should visit the website of the Reproductive Health Access Project (RHAP): http://www.reproductiveaccess.org/. Matt Anderson, MD

Thanks for talking to your students about this important issue.
One of the big barriers to increased access to abortion services is that training on abortion procedures and pre and post abortion care is not a routine part of training in family medicine. Even ob-gyn residents often have to go out of their way to develop proficiency. Does the Department of Family and Social Medicine give students the opportunity to learn to perform abortions and provide pre- and post-abortion care?
